Green Turtle Cay is the place to come if you are looking for a true island experience, a getaway from the hustle and bustle. Green Turtle is a part of the Abaco chain, which is considered one of the most historical of the family islands. When you step off the ferry and get your first feel of the laid-back atmosphere, you will really get that feeling of going travelling back to a time when life was simpler.

The island is about three miles long and a mile across, offering beautiful settings of lush landscapes against white beaches and unbelievable hues of the sea.  Originally settled in 1783 by the Loyalists from the Carolinas during revolutionary war, New Plymouth has a sense of history and tradition. The village is very picturesque, the architecture is reminiscient of a New England township, but the bright colors make it truly Bahamian. A small museum offers a historical perspective, an art gallery featuring local artists and a bevy of historic homes make for an interesting stroll into the island's past. The town is also very prosperous, offering a number of services and supplies as well as various stores for unique souveniers.

The water is calm and inviting basically all year round. Virtually the entire coastline is comprised of soft, white, sandy beaches and the clearest waters of aquamarine. You can go to any beach on any given day and be the only ones there. The waters are perfect for sailing and there is a regatta held every year on the 4th of July. The fishing is also fabulous year-round, offering catches of grouper, mahi mahi, tuna, and if your lucky you might spot a marlin. There are native fishing guides available for deep-sea and bonefishing tours.

This is a place that embodies native Bahamian life. If you are looking for a place to relax, soak up the sun, and play on the water all day long... look no further. Your island paradise getaway is waiting!
